The Day Autumn Has Commenced

Today I look at the date,

For a time I do await,

the arrival of autumn is upon us.

My heart rises with elation,

Vivid manifestation

Of divine artistry at my fingertips.

Russet brown, purple-red,

Golden yellow and scarlet,

offer a satisfying crunch under toe.

Pumpkin spice is on the rise,

Whipped cream topping on my pie,

Just one bite and maybe another.

Cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg,

“More pie please,” I don’t want to beg,

Although a pumpkin spice latte would also be nice.

Shall I start a laggard ode

or declare it in morse code,

I love autumn more than the stars love the moon.
